Swan Lake
Janaury 19th 2025 Bradford Live
Quite a prestigious event to be held at this newly renovated venue, Varna international Ballet company complete with live orchestra playing Tchaikovsky’s score.
A first for me as I‘ve never seen a ballet outside of the Hans Christian Anderson film! The story of Swan Lake is well known Prince Siegfried ( Ukrainian dancer Danylo Motkov )falls in love with Princess Odette ( French dancer Pauline Faget )who is cursed to live as a swan. The dancers are incredible, moving with precision and grace, the choreography of the opposing colors at one point is amazing interweaving with each other ,all while on points! As previous mentioned the live orchestra adds a dynamic to it, gives the performance an extra edge. I do admit to being confused with the story line as there is no dialogue of course. As each set was different and who was who I was unsure of but it was enough to just be drawn in to the visuals.
This ballet was just wonderful-stunning sets, brilliant dancing and a storyline that moved at pace, with grace and emotion. The closing scenes take your breath away and the male swans deserved the standing ovation, along with the whole of the dance company. It was fantastic.
